Hi

When we were preparing for the ISORA AGM in 2019 we were worrying about race schedules, how to accommodate all the racing requirements and demands of our competitors, the rules and all the other ordinary association considerations. Who would have thought this time last year that the World would have been turned on its head in such a calamitous way?

In March, at the beginning of the Lockdown, who would have thought ISORA would have achieved any racing whatsoever? We worked with our Governing Bodies in Ireland, Wales, and the UK to produce a Covid-restricted and regulation compliant schedule. By definition, it was a complicated formula with safety being our primary consideration.

ISORA completed four series of races totalling 16 races being the Coastal and Offshore Race Series on both sides of the Irish Sea! Congratulations to our Champions and to all who competed. Thanks to our sponsors Viking Marine and Global Displays for their continued support in difficult times. Our racing was possible because we had already invested in technology which allowed virtual race management, something that is now being considered by other associations around the world!

The ISORA racing has finished for 2020 and it is time for us to wrap the season up with the AGM and to start planning for 2021. Now we can start worrying about race schedules, how to accommodate all the racing requirements and demands of our competitors, the rules, and all other ordinary association considerations but now in what will undoubtably continue to be extra-ordinary times!

Our AGM will be a Virtual meeting by 'Zoom' and the Notice is published on the web site here and as part of the e-newsletter below. If you want to attend please complete the attendance invitation form here.

Please note questions for the AGM must be received by 2nd November and sent by e-mail or as part of the attendance request form.

I would also like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention some changes to ‘World Sailing - Offshore Special Regulations 2020-21’ that will be relevant to our Category 3 Offshore Races in 2021:

  • Compulsory AIS for Category 3 races - with the antenna being 3m above the water line, making pushpit mounted antennas insufficient.
  • Boats to be fitted with engine or electric powered roving pump capable of removing water from any compartment
  • Keel Bolts checked by a professional every 24 months or after a grounding
  • Sufficient fuel to meet charging requirements for the duration of the race and to motor at the above minimum speed for at least 5 hours

These are all listed on our 'Safety Matters' Page here

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM
